Cameron County Park Rangers are investigating the drowning of a man who was pulled out of the SPI waters this morning.
The identity of the man has been confirmed through the help of the FBI, and the next of kin is being notified, said Horacio Zamora, Cameron County Park Ranger chief.
The man's identity has not been released. The body washed up on the Cameron County Beach Access 5 around 11:30 a.m., Zamora said.
Authorities said the man died in the water.
There were no signs of foul play, and Justice of the Peace Bennie Ochoa ordered an autopsy of the body, according to Zamora.
Authorities believe a the man to be an undocumented migrant attempting to cross into the U.S. and part of a group of undocumented migrants who were detained on Sunday on the Island.
