SAN ANTONIO - Mayor Ron Nirenberg announced the first round of cuts after interviewing the 31 candidates who applied for the City Manager position, dwindling down the candidates to eight.
"City Council reviewed and evaluated 31 applicants from across the country and within city government for consideration of the City Manager position," Mayor Ron Nirenberg said. "We have narrowed the list to our priority candidates and I am confident this process will result in a top-notch City Manager who will assist us in moving our city forward."
The eight who remain hail from either Dallas, San Antonio or Las Vegas.
The first round for the remaining candidates will take place during a special City Council meeting Monday and Tuesday at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
Applicants who advance further will be announced Tuesday evening.
The position opened up after Sheryl Sculley announced her retirement after 13 years.
