Mother arrested for 6-year-old's severe malnutrition, records say
SAN ANTONIO -- Police arrested a mother after her 6-year-old girl was found to be severely malnourished, according to an affidavit.
The child's mother, Jennifer Marie Delgado, took the girl to the hospital after she said she found the child blue when she went to feed her.
An investigation was launched when doctors discovered the child weighed only 19 pounds, suffering from severe tooth decay, covered in numerous bed sores and experiencing severe hair loss, according to an affidavit. Court documents state Delgado told doctors the child suffered from several ailments. However, doctors determined the girl's condition was due to neglect over a period of months, according to an affidavit. A doctor said the child will need to be hospitalized for some time in order to recover.
Delgado was arrested and charged with injury to a child - serious bodily injury.
