New local monument honors Texas war heroes
SAN ANTONIO – A new monument at the Bexar County Courthouse pays honor to Texas war heroes.
It bears the names of Texas Legislative Medal of Honor recipients with ties to San Antonio.
“This is a masterpiece of the county, as far as I’m concerned,” says local man Jim Cisneros.
He came to Fox San Antonio more than a year ago for help.
His brother, Corporal Roy Cisneros, fought bravely in Vietnam and died for his country. Corporal Cisneros was posthumously awarded the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor.
The younger Cisneros thought the recipients of the state’s highest military honor deserved recognition.
Originally, he wanted the tribute to be the at the Tobin Center along with the monument there to Congressional Medal of Honor recipients.
We helped Cisneros connect with two members of the Bexar County Commission who are also veterans, Kevin Wolff and Paul Elizondo.
Together, they found a proper spot on the grounds of the County Courthouse to pay tribute. The monument replaces a plaque that the county took down a few years ago that honored the Confederacy.
“I believe this is a milestone in the city’s history and I can only hope that it lasts forever,” Cisneros says.
