Suspect in custody after standoff with Pearsall Police, DPS agents
A man is in custody after a lengthy standoff with Pearsall Police and DPS agents on Monday morning.
The incident began around 4:45 a.m. when police were called for shots fired at a home. When police arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds when he was hit by a shotgun blast.
Pearsall police found Juan Nicanor Garcia, 56, and realized that they had previous run ins with him. Garcia had a trespass order against the property where the shooting took place.
Police were dispatched to Garcia's residence where the stand off began when the suspect wouldn't come out of the home. DPS agents and tactical team were called out and were able to gain entry into the home, where they found Garcia with a shotgun in hand.
At some point, Garcia slipped and the agents used a stun gun to apprehend him and take him into custody. Garcia will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, criminal trespass and felon in possession of a firearm.
The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
