SAN ANTONIO (KABB/WOAI) - A mother is facing charges after her disabled son died and was found to be severely malnourished and dehydrated.

According to an arrest affidavit, 47-year-old Alma Munoz called police May 27 to report that her 21-year-old son was dead. When officers arrived, they could see his bones through his skin and found his head infested with lice, according to the affidavit.

An autopsy later revealed that the victim, who had a neurological and brain birth defect, showed signs of severe malnutrition and dehydration. The affidavit stated that the victim had not been to a doctor or occupational therapist since he was 18.

The affidavit stated the victim received food stamps and medical benefits from the state and that Munoz was the payee for those benefits. Munoz also said she was the victim's sole caregiver and stayed home with him.

She was arrested and charged with injury to a disabled person.
