Human remains found during hospital renovation to be reburied
SAN ANTONIO – A special ceremony will be held at Children's Hospital of San Antonio Wednesday.
The ceremony will be to mark the return of human remains found at a construction site at the hospital to their final resting place.
The beginning of the story goes back to 1997, when the remains of 10 people were found during renovation work where children's hospital now stands. Those remains had been under custodial care of UTSA.
In September of last year, crews found more bones at a construction site next to the hospital. The Downtown hospital was built on a Catholic burial site. Over the past year, the hospital has been meeting with different groups to determine what should be done.
Today, the remains will be returned to the ground. There are also plans for a healing and prayer garden.
It will mark and honor the history of the sacred spot.
The interment ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at Children's Hospital on North Santa Rosa.
