New details are in on several dogs that were rescued after a house fire on the South Side Wednesday morning.
When firefighters arrived at the house on Betty Jean Street, they found 20 dogs inside the house and several cats. Two of the dogs were killed.
The 18 dogs that survived were surrendered by the homeowners and taken into custody by Animal Care Services, but three of those dogs were puppies that were gravely ill.
San Antonio Pets Alive has taken those three sick puppies and is treating them in order to help save their lives. They are said to have extreme smoke exposure and they have tested positive for Parvo Virus, which is very expensive to treat.
San Antonio Pets Alive is also taking donations for anyone wanting to help cover the cost of treatment for the puppies.
As for the cause of the fire, investigators believe it started because of an electrical problem inside the house.
