San Antonio Pets Alive! urges locals to adopt shelter pets

SAN ANTONIO - An animal rescue group that recently airlifted dozens of pets to forever homes in Idaho says there are just too many stray animals and not enough space to keep them alive in San Antonio shelters.

San Antonio Pets Alive wants to encourage potential pet owners to make the commitment to adopt a shelter pet.

The reason? There are dozens, if not hundreds, of dogs and cats that need immediate adoption, or foster care, or they will be euthanized.

Recently, SAPA managed to get about 50 dogs and cats on a small plane to Idaho, where they may quickly find a new, permanent home.

Dog Is My Copilot helped transport the animals. It depends on donors to make the flights happen. The organization's website says more than 6,500 pets have been rescued this way.
