Suspected San Antonio thief killed while stealing car jack identified
SAN ANTONIO - A man who was shot and killed while trying to steal a jack from under a parked car on the Southside early Tuesday morning has been identified.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner identified the suspect as 54-year-old Jesse Anthony Agruello Jr.
On Tuesday morning, the homeowner found Agruello Jr. trying to steal a jack from under his car parked outside his home on Jennings Avenue, according to the San Antonio Police.
Police said Agruello Jr. got the jack into his car and tried to drive away, but the homeowner grabbed onto the car and fired a couple shots from his own gun, possibly striking the suspect.
Agruello Jr.'s car crashed into the front yard of a home one block over, where he died. The chief said the medical examiner would have to determine whether Agruello Jr. died as a result of the shooting or the crash.
Police said it's likely the homeowner, described as a man in his 40s, would not face charges. He added that the homeowner works as a mechanic and he uses his tools as a way to make a living.
