Suspected serial rapist used dating apps to find victims, say investigators
A suspected serial rapist was arrested on allegations he attacked and sexually assaulted several women he met through popular dating apps.
Jorge Arturo Mar, 24, appeared before a judge early Friday morning in Houston. His bond was set at $1 million.
Investigators say Mar used dating apps, like Tinder, to find his alleged victims. Additonally, detectives said Mar's DNA was found during a sexual assault exam of one victim.
Houston media outlet KTRK reported that Mar's mother claimed she knew her son was meeting women online, but added that he is not a serial rapist.
At the moment, Mar is a suspect in eight sexual assaults. He was charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and one count of aggravated robbery. More charges are pending.
