Thief breaking into coin machine shot by car wash owner, say police

SAN ANTONIO - Police in Schertz said a man breaking into a room at a car wash was shot early Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened at about 5 a.m. at a car wash facility along Main Street in Schertz.

The owner of the car wash found a person breaking into the room where a money vault is located. The owner then pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting the suspect, according to investigators.

The suspect was taken to North Central Baptist Hospital, but was then airlifted to University Hospital to undergo surgery.

Police said the owner who fired the shots told them he was in fear for his life.
