SAN ANTONIO - An 18-wheeler caught fire on a busy stretch of I-35 on Thursday morning, prompting a total shutdown of the southbound lanes of I-35 at Loop 1604 on the Northeast Side.
Officers said the 18-wheeler hit a highway barrier, causing the gas tank to rupture. They believe that sparked the fire. The 18-wheeler was carrying auto parts.
Firefighters said two people inside the 18-wheeler were taken to a hospital for treatment and were released a short time later.
Two lanes of I-35 SB were reopened after 7 a.m. and the Live Oak Police Department said the cleanup was expected to last until early afternoon.
