Woman arrested after 2-year-old dies from 'non-accidental trauma'
SAN ANTONIO - A woman was arrested after a 2-year-old died in her care back in July.
Roxanne Tovar, 30, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with Injury to a Child by Reckless Omission.
According to the arrest affidavit, Desmond Jimenez, 2, was found unresponsive and "non-accidental trauma" on his body and methamphetamine in his system.
Tovar admitted to waiting 20 minutes before calling 911 about Jimenez, who she was taking care of.
When police arrived, the baby was found unresponsive on the floor in a back room. The officer could see a bruise around his eye, sores around his mouth and bruising to other parts of his body. Tovar told police that the child's injuries were caused by the baby's 4-year-old sister.
According to the medical examiner, the baby had numerous injuries all over his body, including multiple bruises, lumps on his head, large healing scar on the base of his genitals, injury to left testicle and tearing on the inside of the lips and mouth, and broken and bleeding fingernails.
