Court file: Suspect raped woman dying from drug overdose, bragged about it
EVERETT, Wash. - A 19-year-old Martha Lake man is under arrest after police say he reportedly raped a woman at a party as she was dying of a drug overdose, then took steps to dispose of her body after she died.
Snohomish County Superior Court documents say the suspect never tried to help the victim after she overdosed, and instead took photos of her as she lay dying and texted them out to some friends with the caption "LOL I think she od’d, still breathing."
After the victim's death, the suspect reportedly used her thumb to unlock her cell phone and send out a message to fool the victim's family into thinking that she had run away and was still alive, according to the court file. Meanwhile, court records say he bragged to a friend that "she died having sex with me."
According to the court documents, detectives began investigating the case Tuesday when a co-worker of the suspect went to police and said he wanted to report a murder.
The co-worker told investigators that the suspect told him that he had been at a party Saturday night at a friend's residence where a woman had overdosed on drugs and died, according to the court file.
The co-worker said the suspect told him the woman had overdosed after she snorted a line of crushed Percocet pills and after the suspect had given her some high-potency liquid THC.
The suspect then reported having sex with her "to pass the time," court documents say.
The co-worker also said the suspect had sent him two photos of a semi-nude woman on her back "with swollen and purple/blue lips clearly unconscious," according to the court file.
The co-worker went on to say that the suspect wanted to take her to the emergency room, but he was too tired to do that and went to sleep instead. When he woke up the next morning, she was dead, the court documents say.
That's when the suspect sent out the fake message on the victim's cell phone, broke her legs and stuffed her into a box in preparation for disposing of her body, according to the court file.
Detectives then interviewed the man who resides at the home where the party took place, who confirmed much of what the co-worker had said and claimed that he had urged the suspect to call 911 and report the death. Instead, the suspect went to work, the court file says.
Investigators later served a search warrant at the home where the party had taken place and found the victim's body.
The suspect was arrested and during questioning admitted much of what the witnesses had already told police, including having sex with the victim while she "was not in her right state of mind," according to the court file.
The suspect also told investigators that he planned to bury the victim's body by packing it with onions to minimize the odor, court documents say.
The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on held on $500,000 bail for investigation of first-degree manslaughter, controlled substance homicide and second-degree rape.
