Jessie Gallan, who was once Scotland's oldest living person at 109, says the secret to living a long life is to "eat your porridge and avoid men," according to The Daily Mail.
Gallan was born in a two-room cottage and shared a bed with her five sisters and one brother growing up.
"My secret to a long life has been staying away from men," Gallan says. "They're just more trouble than they're worth."
Gallan has never been married and left home at 13 to become a milkmaid.
Gallan also credits eating lots of porridge and exercising for her longevity.
"I also made sure that I got plenty of exercise, eat a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning and have never gotten married, she told The Daily Mail. "I always worked hard and seldom would I ever take a holiday. I left home when I was 13 and began a job milking cows. I always had good jobs with very nice people. It's amazing to see how completely different the world is now from the one I grew up in."
Gallan gave the advice years ago. She died in a nursing home in Scotland in March 2015.
