Historic Market Square still home to key San Antonio celebrations

Historic Market Square is probably best known for good eats and as a hot destination for tourists, but its history dates back more than 100 years.

Plazas were a large part of the San Antonio's earliest days. Market Square moved from the main plaza -- "Plaza de Armas" -- to its current location in the 1890s.

As San Antonio grew, so did Market Square.

In 1976, it once again became a place where people could come together for entertainment and celebrations.

Today, it hosts a number of events like 'Fiesta de Los Reyes' -- one of the largest free and family celebrations during Fiesta.

It's also home to 'El Gran Tamalada', a huge tamale-making party that happened just last week.

To this day, it continues to be a place of huge importance for San Antonio and its diverse culture.
