Authorities confirm 87 people are dead in the latest reports, as power outages have complicated rescue efforts.
Hurricane Ian, which slammed into Florida on Wednesday with 150 mph winds, was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone after marching into the Carolinas.
The 87 confirmed storm-related deaths showed an increase of 10 people, compared to Saturday’s count of 77.
The death toll was recorded in Florida and North Carolina, according to a tally by state officials and an NBC News count.
With rescue efforts ongoing and the floodwater receding in places littered with wrecked homes, local officials warned the death toll could still rise.
