Gold Star Family gets keys to mortgage-free home in honor of Memorial Day
SAN ANTONIO - In honor of Memorial Day, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has handed over the keys on a new mortgage-free home right here in San Antonio to the family of Marine Corps Sergeant Jose Luis Saenz III.
Marine Corps Sergeant Jose Luis Saenz III was killed in action in August 2010.
This is one of 20 homes Tunnel to Towers is delivering around the country this Memorial Day.
Sgt Saenz proudly served his country for 7 years with two overseas deployments.
In the early morning of August 09, 2010, Sgt. Saenz triggered an IED in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province which tragically ended his life.
He left behind his wife, Christy Heritage-Saenz, and his son Jose Luis Saenz IV.
In a private ceremony, the Foundation presented Christy and Jose Luis with the keys to their new home.
“This home gives us a fresh start, a great sense of financial security. This home gives us the opportunity to build on Jose’s legacy and rebuild our family identity while living out my late husband’s values and traditions,” said Christy.
“Memorial Day is a day to acknowledge those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. This Memorial Day, when you are enjoying your day off, maybe seeing friends or family for the first time, I ask you to take a minute to think of those families who will never see their loved ones again. These heroes gave up their lives for our freedom and we will give the families they left behind a place where they can live free of the burdens of a mortgage,” said Tunnel to Towers Chairman & CEO Frank Siller.
The Tunnel to Towers Gold Star Family Home Program honors the legacy of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country by paying off the mortgage or providing the surviving spouses and young children with mortgage-free homes.
The Foundation is keeping its promise to NEVER FORGET the names of these heroes.
On Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, Tunnel to Towers will host a first-of-its-kind memorial ceremony honoring all of the lives lost in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The names of every service member who was killed in these wars will be read aloud in Washington, D.C.
This year as the Foundation marks the twentieth anniversary of the September 11th attacks and the Foundation’s inception, it has set an ambitious goal of delivering 200 mortgage-free homes by the end of the year.
