SAN ANTONIO - A man is dead after trying to break into a home near South Side Lions Park on the Southeast Side.

The deadly incident happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday at a home off Kashmuir Place and Kellis Avenue.

Police said the burglar got into the home through the back door into the laundry room and was trying to break into the main door leading into the home. That's when the female homeowner saw the burglar and shot him twice in the chest.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, but later died from his injuries.

There were three children inside the home at the time of the shooting, but no other injuries were reported.

The homeowner isn't facing any charges due to the castle doctrine, which allows the use of force against another person who is: unlawfully and with force entering or attempts to enter your habitation, vehicle, or workplace.
