SAN ANTONIO – A major highway accident on a Northeast Side highway caused power outages, fires and traffic issues.
A man, 43, and woman, 31, were driving a Peterbilt truck tractor [big rig] around 1 p.m. Tuesday on I-35 near Crosswinds Way.
Police say the truck, pulling a dump bed trailer, hydraulics system began to raise the trailer while they were driving. At one point, it got high enough to hit the overhead power and fiber optic lines stretching over the highway.
This flipped the truck, broke the wires and caused a wreck damaging multiple vehicles.
Not only this, but officers say the downed power lines also sparked a fire on a nearby building and in the grass.
First responders were able to put out the fire and get the man and woman out of the truck. The man was taken to the hospital via ambulance, while the woman had to be flown to the hospital with head injuries.
