MEMPHIS — The San Antonio Spurs have looked better, but they've also looked worse in Wednesday night's 96-86 loss to Memphis.
Coming out of the gates, San Antonio (24-18) looked slow, and it didn't exactly speed up in the first two quarters as it only scored 18 in the first and 13 in the second.
Gregg Popovich's squad answered in the third quarter, scoring 33 to bring the score 64-72, but it wasn't enough.
Here's a small sampling of what the teams said following the game:
“They have a pretty talented team and they need Marc [Gasol] and Mike [Conley] to play well. They’re the motor, right? And then everybody else will kind of follow. But they both need to perform.”
“I think both teams were pretty sloppy in the first half. Neither team played very well in the first half, but I thought they picked it up in the second half. Executed pretty well, played pretty physically, and did a good job in the second half.”
"We made some shots and they made some shots as well, but we were able to control the rhythm of the game and get away with a really important win, I think, for our confidence and everyone’s confidence in the city. Now, we have to keep it rolling.”
"I think we showed tonight what our defense could be and should be night in and night out. I think we did a good job, especially team-wise, defensively on them.”
“I think the defensive intensity that we started with was great. You think about some of the shots that we blocked from guys that were out of position, and saved possessions. We were able to scramble and came up with defensive rebounds and go."
