Canyon Cougarettes hope to continue winning streak against Holmes in softball playoffs

NEW BRAUNFELS - Did you know we have one of the best softball teams in the nation right in our own backyard?

The New Braunfels Canyon girls have lost once all year, a 1-0 loss to Converse, been nationally ranked and have one of the top pitchers in the country.

Brook Vestal will play next year at Oklahoma. She's been here for all those successes, but this team may be different.

They have five seniors and have been to the regional finals the last three years, and are hoping their lucky mascot helps them get over the hump this year.

Just so you know, the Cougarettes avenged that loss with a 12-0 win against Judson to end the regular season.

The Courgarettes (25-1) have already bested Brennan and Hays in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Canyon plays Holmes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in a one-game playoff in the Regional Quarterfinals at St. Mary's.

The winner moves on to the Regional Semifinals against either Eagle Pass or San Benito. Canyon already defeated Eagle Pass 10-4 earlier in the season.
