SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC continued its dominance over Portland on Wednesday night, and clinched a playoff spot in the process.

San Antonio FC's Ryan Roushandel scored the game winning goal in the 71st minute on a beautiful pass by Ever Guzman in a 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers at Toyota Field.

The win clinched at least a top three finish in the Western Conference and a first-round home playoff match.

“We earned three important points tonight which secure a home seed for at least the first round of the playoffs, which is something we set out to do since the beginning of the year,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “We’re pleased to accomplish that but we have to continue to improve as we head into the playoffs.”

SAFC opened the scoring tonight in the 16th minute when midfielder Billy Forbes found forward Ever Guzman inside the box with a cross from the wing. Guzman placed the ball far-post with a header for the 1-0 lead, scoring his second goal in as many matches.

San Antonio FC swept the season series with Portland, outscoring the Timbers 6-1 in the two matches and are 2-0-1 all-time against them.

SAFC improved to 7-1-7 at home on the season.

San Antonio FC will return to action on Saturday, October 14 as they host South Texas rivals Rio Grande Valley FC at Toyota Field in their final match of the 2017 regular season, presented by Augie’s Smoke House.
