That time a naked, out of control Avery Johnson tried to fight Malik Rose
It seems the current issues between the San Antonio Spurs and Kawhi Leonard hasn't been one of the most craziest things to ever happen to the organization.
And it involves a naked Avery Johnson.
The former Spurs guard and former forward Malik Rose added one of the wildest chapters in the Spurs drama-free history.
In an article from The Undisputed, a story of a heated Johnson going after Rose in the locker room regarding playing time, and defensive assignments and it's something no one can make up.
The Chicago Tribune reported in March 2000 that Spurs guard Avery Johnson was angering teammates with selfish complaining after being benched in several fourth quarters for Terry Porter, who was a better 3-point shooter. During a 92-81 Spurs loss at Cleveland on Feb. 15, 2000, Johnson and teammate Malik Rose argued over a defensive play when Cavaliers guard Andre Miller got a 3-point play.
After the game, a nude Johnson tried to slap Rose in front of his locker while on his way to the shower, a source told The Undefeated. Rose lunged forward to hit Johnson and slipped and fell after stepping into teammate Mario Elie’s bucket of ice. Rose was held back by teammates Felton Spencer and Jerome Kersey. Still nude, Johnson started pacing around the locker room, throwing stuff around and breaking a television while having words for Popovich, Robinson, Rose and Porter about the team no longer being his.
Johnson was usually seen as a unselfish, team first player during his time in San Antonio. He was dubbed "The Little General" for his in-your-face style of leading on the court but it seems he had his not-so-great moments too.
Johnson would help lead the Spurs to the team's first NBA title in 1999 and would see his jersey retired by the franchise.
This certainly is something even crazier than the current Leonard saga.
